I could see Joe’s body totally relax. The signs were all there. He was in a deepened state of somnambulism (the deep working state of hypnosis). Having been in hypnosis before, he went under easily and quickly. I knew that as long as he was open to the hypnotic suggestions I gave him things would go well, and we would accomplish our goals.
Before we started the session, I had explained to Joe how important his mental attitude was. He had to think: “I like the suggestion. I know it’s going to work for me!” Any other thought would create resistance and block the suggestions from working.
Joe was always in charge of his own mind and could choose to accept or reject any suggestion. He was a cooperative client, so I could guide him smoothly into a relaxed and pleasant trance and keep him there until we completed our work. All hypnosis is actually self-hypnosis. Hypnotists are trained guides.
I gave him the hypnotic suggestions that we had agreed upon beforehand, and he chose whether to accept them or not. When we finished, he felt good, relaxed and eager to experience hypnosis again.
Once a person has been under hypnosis once, they tend to become a hypno-junkie. Hypnosis is such a beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable state, that it can be hard to resist.
So remember- If you really want to be hypnotized and you want to benefit from the hypnotic suggestions, you will have great results. It all depends on your attitude. If you have confidence that it will work, it will. If you are doubtful, it could impede your progress.
I hope this article has been informative and helpful to people who want to try hypnosis but are frightened to do so. Have you ever been hypnotized? Let me know about your experience in the comment section below.
